Motor and transmission

Most often used power unit, extracted from a friendship chainsaw - it is best suited for this design, plus finding it at a fairly low price is no problem. Of course, an exhaust pipe will not be needed here - this is a plus both in terms of reliability and overall weight. Assembling an engine from scratch at home will be problematic, so let’s look at how to install a ready-made shaft motor.

The optimal solution would be steel elements with a thickness of about 3-4 mm. You shouldn’t overdo it here - remember that a too powerful frame, firstly, will increase the load on the rear wheel, and secondly, it will increase the total weight of the moped (accordingly, it will be more difficult for the engine to accelerate it).

In this matter, try to find the “golden mean” between the strength of the structure and its weight. Connections in this design must be made by welding or, if you do not have a welding machine, with bolts. The second method is a little easier to implement, but less reliable - bolted connections tend to weaken, so there is some chance that your moped will simply fall apart one day. The engine itself can be attached to the frame using ordinary steel clamps - this is the simplest and most reliable solution.

As already mentioned, a wheel from a children’s bicycle, having a diameter one and a half to two times smaller than the diameter of the wheel of your bicycle, is perfect as a pulley.
