Tournament grid tennis roland garos. Where will the tournament take place?

Roland Garros in Paris is rapidly coming to an end. Over the past three days, all quarterfinals have been played in singles at the actual clay world championship.

It's interesting to see how a tournament starts with a huge number of participants, but the organizers manage to organize several hundred players so that everything goes according to plan. But, when the tournament is already close to completion, you can increasingly see how the deadlines begin to shift. It would seem that there are much fewer players and it should be easier to organize them. However, the reason for this “disorganization” is simple - the fewer players in the bracket, the more central the games are shifted to, and, in the end, starting from the 1/8 finals, the opponents play mainly only on the courts of Philippe Chatrier and Suzanne Lenglen. Thus, the games take place in front of a large crowd of spectators, and they, in turn, have the opportunity to focus their attention on the most important matches.

After all the events of the 1/8 finals, some of which shocked the tennis world, the quarterfinal matches passed without any special incidents.

In the women's bracket, what should have happened happened - like a rock crystal, with a universal ringing, the hopes of Russian fans and functionaries for a triumphant conclusion of the tournament were shattered. Many hotheads already imagined that the women's final in Paris could be purely Russian - after all, Maria Sharapova and Daria Kasatkina reached the quarterfinal stage from different ends of the bracket. Reality turned out to be not even a tub, but a huge tank of cold water that poured onto the heads of unbridled optimists.

On Tuesday, Kasatkina met Sloane Stephens, seeded tenth in Paris. Dasha, having sent home the second racket of the world, Caroline Wozniacki, in the previous round, and captivated the audience with her game, it seems that she was simply frightened by her agility - not only did she reach the 1/8 finals for the first time, but she also reached the quarterfinals. And her opponent, by the way, won the US Open last year.

The game simply didn’t work out for the Russian. There was a moment in the first set with the score 2:4 when she made a reverse break and all she had to do was take her serve. Dasha was close to this, winning 30:0, 40:15, but a couple of lost goals and the subsequent long over-under rally led to the fact that the American again took someone else’s serve, won her own, and the first set was left to the American - 6:3. And in the second set there was simply no fight - Daria left all her strength in the previous stages Roland Garros. At the same time, the young Russian tennis player can be given a big A with a huge fat plus for this tournament - few people, including Kasatkina herself, could have imagined that the tennis player would go so far.

As for Maria Sharapova, she took to the court against Garbine Muguruza (pictured) after a failed meeting with Serena Williams. the site covered this topic in detail in its material, and it is quite possible that in a few days Maria simply burned out. However, Muguruza played only two games with Tsurenko, after which she refused to play further. The version that seems more likely is that the match with Muguruza saw another decline, with which Sharapova is simply sick after her return to the court - in every match, Maria inevitably fails in the game for some time. But she miraculously went through her previous match against Karolina Pliskova without any losses, literally sweeping her opponent off the court. Apparently, the expected next decline occurred in the match with Muguruza.

However, the likelihood that Maria would pass the Spanish athlete was, objectively, small. Muguruza is now very confident in her abilities, plays the same power tennis and screams on the court as loudly as Sharapova. To beat it, you need to have something that will be performed better. For now, watching (or listening to) games between Sharapova and Muguruza may only save money for those who enjoy late-night phone entertainment with a group twist.

Despite the fact that the probability of Sharapova's victory was generally low, her defeat with a large score was very unexpected - Maria took only three games - 2:6, 1:6.

So the performance Russian tennis players and tennis players at Roland Garros is over. In general, it can be considered successful, although some aftertaste of dissatisfaction remains.

In another quarterfinal match, the German Angelique Kerber managed to successfully impose a fight on the first racket of the world, Romanian Simona Halep, only in the first set 7:6 (7:2), but all her strength went into the first set - 3:6, 2:6 in the following sets.

And finally, Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan tried to compete with the American Madison Keys, but for her, the threshold of the 1/4 finals turned out to be insurmountable - 6:7 (5:7), 4:6. Putintseva, who is the 98th racket in the world, can safely give a rating of “ten” on a five-point scale for this Roland Garros.

Thus, in the semi-finals, spectators will find an extremely interesting match between Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza, in which any athlete can win. The other semi-final will be American - Madison Keys will meet Sloane Stephens.

IN men's mesh, by and large, no surprises happened - even taking into account the fact that the second seeded Alexander Zverev lost to the Austrian Dominic Thiem (7). Once upon a time, three difficult five-set matches played should have taken their toll even on a young animal’s body. There was practically no game - three sets played, in which Zverev took only 7 games: 6:4, 6:2, 6:1 in favor of Thiem, and in the semifinals he will meet with the Italian Marco Cecchinato, who, in turn, beat the outstanding player of our time, Serbian Novak Djokovic, in four sets. The result may seem sensational only in appearance - Djokovic is still regaining his former form, he is now seeded in only 20th place at Roland Garros, and his defeat could theoretically have been foreseen. However, this does not detract from the merits of Cecchinato, who had an outstanding game.

The biggest clay tournament is about to start. Like last year, the main intrigue will be whether Rafael Nadal will take the title or not. This year it will hardly be more difficult for the Spaniard than last year. Yes, the Spaniard actually lost twice on clay in current season(To Thiem and Zverev (the German was stronger and should have won). But both Thiem and Zverev are in the same quarter of the bracket, so Nadal will only face one of them, and only if the Austrian or the German reach the final. Who else can stop Rafael on the way to the title?

If Denis Shapovalov reaches the 1/8 finals, then the Canadian is potentially one of those who can strain Nadal. Denis showed excellent tennis at the Masters tournaments, he is going to big tournaments. In Rome, Shapovalov only had enough strength for a set against Nadal, but Denis was already “squeezed out” there; now, if he comes up fresher, the Canadian will have more chances.

Next, Anderson, Kohlschreiber, Coric or Schwartzman can go to Nadal (although in fact all four may not reach ¼). But none of them will be able to compete with Nadal, even if they leave.

Next, Cilic, Edmund, maybe Fognini and Berdych will qualify for the semi-finals. In any case, everything is more than passable for Nadal. So only a sudden injury or illness separates Nadal from the final.

Whoever Nadal faces in the final, he will be the clear favorite. Sasha Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori. All of them can only locally strain the Spaniard. And the net of any of them is more difficult than Rafael’s, so Nadal will also be ahead in terms of physics. In general, we have decided on the main favorite.

Half of Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros 2018

The first half, especially the first quarter (which is where Nadal is at), looks very weak. Juice is out of shape, the American’s physics are very weak, Gasquet somehow wilted after Monte Carlo, Shvartsman’s form is shaky (although the Argentinean is very difficult, he could hide and save up strength for the RG). Kohlschreiber is still a bright spot. Good tennis Philip has been demonstrating all spring, but his grid is very complicated. Lopez is not bad, but the Spaniard is not physically up to the task, a couple of rounds and he can be carried away. Anderson is not sure how he feels after the injury. Cilic is still quite good, he has improved his serve and his forehand. Marin is one of three tennis players who played in the TBS finals twice for Last year, so we also rely on him. Well, Edmund and Berdych. In general, according to the names and forms of tennis players, this half is somewhat weaker than the bottom.

Half of Alexander Zverev at Roland Garros 2018

At the bottom there is David Goffin, who played very well at the Masters and in Barcelona. Carreno Busta, the Spaniard doesn’t even show it best tennis, but plays cleanly and confidently passes weaker opponents. Novak Djokovic, in fact, if he passes Grigor Dimitrov, he will be the main contender for the semi-finals. The Serbian is gaining momentum, he knows how to play five-set matches and will improve his form as the tournament progresses. Dominic Thiema should be in the 1/8. But it could be difficult for the Austrian. He has Nishikori in his net, and Tsitsipas is not a gift in the second round. Moreover, the Austrian is quite unsteady. Tim lost devastatingly to Nadal in Monte Carlo, unexpectedly lost to Tsitsipas in Barcelona, and weakly lost the Madrid final to Zverev. In general, Tim is questionable. Well, Zverev, as the main antagonist of Nadal. It will be interesting to follow the German. But it will be difficult for him. As before, the main questions are about the forehand. This shot is bad. Zverev is forced to bend his arm, which creates additional stress on the muscles. And if in a two-set fight the hand does not get tired quickly, then in a five-set fight everything changes somewhat. We also note that already in the second round Zverev will have a very difficult opponent - Lajovic. If the Serb does not win the tournament in Lyon, he will be an angry and dangerous opponent.

Expected quarter finals at Roland Garros 2018:

Nadal - Kohlschreiber (the German is here, simply because someone had to be written)

Cilic - Berdych

Goffin - Djokovic

Nishikori/Team - Zverev

If we talk about the final, I would like to see the match between Zverev and Nadal. Alexander needs to take revenge for the offensive defeat in Rome, and the German is the only one who can essentially resist Nadal today.

Daria Kasatkina, having beaten former number one Caroline Wozniacki in Paris, said that she would not watch the match between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. The reason for the first racket of Russia turned out to be quite valid, but it soon became clear that no one would watch this highlight of the women’s Roland Garros: the 36-year-old American, citing a recurrence of the injury, refused to take the court. Two Russians ended up in the quarterfinals of the Paris tournament. An intriguing clarification: according to the bracket, Masha and Dasha can only meet in the finals!

Sharapova - breadth of interests

It is not entirely proper to publicly discuss the age of ladies, but Sharapova is exactly 10 years older than Kasatkina. Our tennis primas are generally not very similar to each other, although we can find something in common, except for the love of tennis, of course.

Masha, the former first racket of the world, who won, albeit in different years, all the Grand Slam tournaments, is also a successful businesswoman, a trendsetter, her romantic hobbies are savored with pleasure by the whole world, not only by fans of this sport. But also fans of, say, basketball, because one of Sharapova’s boyfriends was Los Angeles Lakers player Sasha Vujacic.

Her romance with Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, was excitedly followed by music lovers and rock connoisseurs. People interested in Russian politics tried to understand the star’s personal life when rumors arose about her relationship with Senator Anton Belyakov, the same one to whom Andrei Arshavin addressed the catchphrase: “Your expectations are your problems.” However, Fair Russia categorically denied adultery and even promised to sue Sharapova, but... he never went to court. Masha has been the face of many fashion clothing companies; she is the owner of the sweet brand Sugarpova.

She earned nearly $40 million in prize money on the court alone, and Dasha, having defeated Wozniacki, went to look for a hotel, which is why she did not plan to watch the match between her legendary compatriot and Williams Jr. Kasatkina actually allowed herself to rent a house in Paris, but since an advance payment was required, she risked paying it only before the 1/8 finals. The 21-year-old tennis player has so far earned “only” $3.7 million in prize money. How can there be no reasonable savings?

A beauty's heart is inclined to bearded men

The first racket of Russia against the backdrop of Sharapova is modesty itself. In all her interviews, Dasha first of all thanks her coaches, although she has already changed three coaches. Unlike Sharapova, who screams on the court with a volume that has become proverbial and anecdotal, Kasatkina plays with concentration and almost silence. It’s another matter that he can argue with the judge. In Paris, during a match with Greek Maria Sakari, the referee warned the Russian for “coaching tips.” “Man, he didn’t say anything!” - Dasha shouted sharply.

Kasatkina, originally from Tolyatti, became a tennis star and moved to live in Slovakia, not in Monte Carlo, like many of her colleagues.

Nothing is known about her novels. Dasha herself expresses herself very clearly on this matter, claiming that her heart is still absolutely free. It's no secret that in women's tennis The pink theme is always relevant, but this has nothing to do with Kasatkina. The young maximalist simply hasn’t found her prince yet. The requirements are high. Her chosen one must certainly have a sense of humor. Dasha reasons this with her usual clarity in formulations: “What, living with a sad piece of shit, or what?!” There's no arguing with that. But give Dasha a reliable man, and definitely a bearded one. You won't find something like this right away.

For a tennis player, she is surprisingly petite and graceful, so I am sure that as soon as she achieves serious success in tennis, she will certainly become the object of close attention from fashion designers and will receive multimillion-dollar advertising contracts. Dasha really likes Barcelona - both the city and football team, which she is temperamentally rooting for. She doesn’t limit herself to this and plays football herself - her favorite hobby.

Kasatkina really likes Rafael Nadal, so far she is only impressed by his tennis. But if Rafa grows a beard and makes a couple of jokes, the first Russian racket is gone!

Direct speech

Serena Williams: I love playing with Sharapova

Unfortunately, I have difficulty with pectoral muscles. I can't serve. Physically. So it would be difficult to play. This is a very difficult situation because I love playing against Maria. Her acting suits me perfectly. Before arriving at the tournament, I had no problems. I don't understand what exactly happened. It's too painful for me. I'm going to do an MRI. I'll talk to the doctors. Then I’ll decide what to do with Wimbledon. I'm more than upset. I sacrificed time with my daughter and family for this moment.

Maria Sharapova: I hope Serena returns soon

I was looking forward to playing against Serena and I'm really sad that she had to pull out. I wish her a speedy recovery. Hopefully she'll be back on tour soon.

Daria Kasatkina: I played it simply - and it worked

Getting to the Slam quarterfinals for the first time, of course, means a lot to me... But I’ve already forgotten about it because I have to play the next match (with American Sloane Stephens. - “Sport Day by Day”). Did I feel confident playing against Carolina? No, not at all. Due to the very long wait for the match to start, due to the change of court, I had no idea what to expect. In the end, I tried to play in the simplest possible way. It worked.

Number

2 The Russians reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Maria Sharapova and Daria Kasatkina are in different parts of the bracket, so they can only meet in the decisive match. Paris has already seen the Russian final twice. In 2004, Anastasia Myskina easily defeated Elena Dementieva (6:1, 6:2), and five years later Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Dinara Safina (6:4, 6:2).
