It all started at a press conference after the Zenit - Rubin match. Sergei Semak was asked the usual question for such events: does the absence of Dzyuba in the application mean that he will not play in Prague?

The head coach replied that the player had a relapse of the injury, but he had a chance to take the field on Thursday against Slavia.

A few seconds later, Boris Jodorowsky, who loves metaphorical comparisons, asked a question that lasted much longer than the answer. Already knowing that the striker had been studying according to an individual program in recent days.

It just so happens that Dziuba divides coaches into “his” and “not his”. The first definitely include Andre Villas-Boas, Miodrag Bozovic, Sergei Semak. – Many teams use this kind of play; there is no need to let the opponent get ahead and block the goalkeeper. They prevented Lunev from coming out, he couldn’t get to the ball. We hoped that he would come out. Unfortunately, there was confusion at this moment. They fouled unjustifiably in simple situations, especially at the beginning of the 1st half, realizing that this was what Rubin needed. The chance of scoring from a set piece is higher than from a field goal. They played carelessly. Let's analyze it and see.

– I got the impression that Lunev played uncertainly. Tell me your opinion on his game?

– Yes, the second match in which he made mistakes. A difficult season, perhaps psychological fatigue has accumulated and hence those elementary mistakes that are unusual for him.

– Does Dzyuba’s absence mean that he won’t play in Prague?

– He suffered from a recurrence of the injury and was not able to play today. As for Prague, we will decide tomorrow. There is such a possibility.

– Ivanovich in the role of Dzyuba at the end of the match - is it out of despair or a tactical preparation?

– All the attacking potential was on the field. It was necessary to do something additional to increase the pressure. There was no point in playing 3 defenders, so we played 2. Alas, we couldn't get anything out of it, although it added some spice.

– The team is in 1st place in the Russian Championship, and is in 1st place in the Europa League. It’s not for me to give ratings, that’s for sure. There is a bitter feeling because we could have played better. Eat good matches, there is not much. Considering the problems that exist, this is a completely normal result.

– There are many rumors that Paredes and Ivanovic may leave the team. Please tell us your opinion on this matter and share your plans for the winter transfer window.

– What often appears in the media does not cause anything other than a smile. Sometimes it’s such nonsense that you don’t even know where it comes from. Regarding Paredes and Ivanovich, there are no rumors or official information. They are team players just like anyone else. Regarding those who will remain or may leave for some time, we will discuss separately for each player. They don't intend to keep anyone. If an opportunity arises to strengthen this or that position, we will also take advantage of this.

– With the release of Marchisio, there was more meaning in the attack, interesting combinational solutions. Perhaps it is necessary to use his intellectual and technical potential from the first minutes?

“That’s what we want to do.” If a football player comes out and shows good game, he gets the opportunity to play further. Claudio played excellently, we counted and count on him. We are only happy if he demonstrates his skills, which is what he did today.

– Regarding Sorokin. How did the student of St. Petersburg football achieve such a result?

– Again, hints about the place of birth. When he looks good, we trust him and vice versa. That he was dangerous on set pieces was clear when he came to us. His skills as a striker at set pieces are quite well developed. You can’t teach this, it’s from God.

I don't know. I hear many people talking about this. It's nice.

No, well, this... It seems to me that we have already outgrown this moment. I don't quite understand it, but I don't blame it. That is, I can play some big games, RPGs like The Witcher. Now we were playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance with friends - we completed it together. Cool! You create a character, you survive.

- What is the difference between young football players and you old players?

We grew up on the streets: we played Cossack robbers, and played football from morning to evening. And the current generation has too many social networks, too many computers, too many of these games. They don't go out and don't communicate with each other. Character is still being strengthened on the street. That is, you did not come out of there pampered: you had to survive, your elders could offend you - you had to be able to fight back. Try to run after the same Cossack robbers, and if they catch you, what will they do to you! And when, on the contrary, you drive, you think: “Just get caught by me!” I think this is much cooler! And they played hide and seek.

Even now, I go out into the yard with my children and try to gather all the kids and play something. The main thing is to go in for sports, run, play football, basketball - it doesn’t matter. Movement, movement, movement! Movement is life. And sitting near the computer and moving the mouse - it seems to me that this is uninteresting.

- Are you planning to send your children to football?

Well, I have the eldest (Dziuba has two sons - Nikita and Maxim. - Note ed.) no, no, yes he does. Not that I plan to. You just need to be active. Whether they want to go to professional football or not is entirely up to everyone.

-Have you ever fought on the street yourself?

Certainly!

- Tell me about the most striking incident.

Don't want. With age, you come to the conclusion that it is better to resolve any conflict with words, but sometimes it happens. But let's not talk about that. Let's say... No, I am sometimes a very aggressive and hot-tempered person, so there are different episodes, but it is better not to fight. Let's not talk about violence.

- Is there any trait in you that you struggle with or that you don’t like?

Well, there is one trait in me that I struggle with. On the other hand, maybe this is me. I won’t say what it is...

Well, I guess sometimes I'm very aggressive. Sometimes I am very impulsive and hot-tempered, but with age I began to extinguish my anger, this is also an art - it only makes you stronger.

- What’s the thrill of being Artem Dzyuba?

For as long as I can remember, I have always been myself. I always had my own opinion on everything. I am always positive, I have never been tempted to join anyone there. You can convince me, but if it is justified and constructive, but in fact it is very difficult to do this. And I dream of meeting a person who is stronger than me mentally and psychologically. This is really my dream.

- Preferably in this bomber jacket?

Ha ha ha!

We are doing a lot of analysis about how long we have been working together. We look at those who have already played for us, and at those who have been showing themselves recently. We have reached the finish line, and we must hire those who can fulfill our requirements.

There was one adjustment literally only an hour before submission - Eduard Bezuglov called and said that (Spartak goalkeeper Alexander) Selikhov had an Achilles injury. I called (Mikhail) Vartapetov, and they confirmed to me that there was no chance (of playing). The squad will leave for FIFA on Monday. I would not like any changes to occur on this list.

You announced two lineups. 28 players will train in Novogorsk and Austria, but how will the second group of seven players train?

We have approved two plans. The first is those who travel to Austria. The second is those who do not go to training camps. They have a different program that they must carry out wherever they are. They will be in touch. Well, this is our internal affairs. On May 14 there will be a meeting of the technical committee, where I will talk about the team’s preparation.

Spartak midfielder Denis Glushakov was on the list of seven players. Why is the same Krasnodar midfielder Yuri Gazinsky better than Glushakov?

There is the current state. Gazinsky was with us, but he was not called up because he did not show the required level. But we are watching everyone, and in the last seven rounds he showed the required level. And the other one is the opposite. This is normal. The same can be said about (Artem) Dzyuba and (Anton) Zabolotny. One played before, the other now.

As for Glushakov, we thought about this decision for more than one minute. This is an honored football player. Journalists write about the penalty that he missed (Tosno in the semi-finals of the Russian Cup), but for us this is not a defining moment. We have a great relationship, but there is a sporting principle.

Explain the choice of opponents for test matches before the World Cup? The Russian national team will play against the Austrians on May 30 in Innsbruck and on June 5 in Moscow against the Turks.

With the Austrians - because we are there at a gathering. This is the viewer, this is a certain excitement. We have made small adjustments compared to the preparations before Euro 2016. Then there were empty stadiums at matches with the Czechs in Innsbruck, in Monaco (with the Serbs). When they asked me who to play with in Austria, I said only with the Austrians. And the Turks are somewhat (in style) reminiscent of the Uruguayans, plus we “owe” them a game (for a friendly match in 2016).

Shatov could have made it into the squad if not for the injury

- Another midfielder Oleg Shatov improved after his loan to Krasnodar.

We watched Shatov. He could very well make it into the squad. There was a desire, we wanted it, but he was injured in recent matches.

CSKA forward Fedor Chalov scored a hat-trick in the last round against Arsenal Tula (6:0). How would you evaluate the attacker's actions?

According to Chalov, this is not a matter of three goals, but that is also good. We are watching the football player. He played well at the (winter) training camp and stood out, so he continued the season. If (Konstantin) Kuchaev had not had an injury, it would have been another positive headache for me.

- Railway worker Alexey Miranchuk is listed as a striker on your list.

Miranchuk practically played as our second striker. I think this suits him better on our team. At Lokomotiv he plays both in this position and as a winger. When you play as a winger, you need to work more on defense, which was not his strong quality before.

- CSKA midfielder Alan Dzagoev missed the last matches due to injury.

Alan has already volunteered often. And Alan has been training with the main team for a week now. He could have played against Arsenal, but he had three cards and they decided not to let him go when the score was 5:0. As far as I know, he is preparing for the game with Anzhi.

Explain the choice of goalkeepers? With Igor Akinfeev and Vladimir Gabulov, everything is obvious; in this situation, they are more interested in Soslan Dzhanaev and Andrey Lunev, who, by the way, is injured.

Lunev trains in a general group. Before the game with Lokomotiv we did some research, everything was fine. On Thursday we had an examination - and everything was fine too. There are no complaints. At Zenit, they probably won’t risk him in last match championship.

Dzhanaev has fully recovered from his injury. Plus, we know Dzhanaev firsthand. Sasha Selikhov started with me at Amkar, but he came for the first time and didn’t feel very comfortable. And every time it gets better. We are cautiously waiting to see how Chalov and (Alexander) Tashaev will feel. We are waiting for everyone, but there may be different situations with adaptation.

I didn’t like that Dziuba said that he would be a spare

By the way, I would like to ask about the purpose of calling Chalov and Tashaev. Are these players called up just to feel the atmosphere?

No. I repeat, we have already reached the finish line. In March, we played with the French and Brazilians, essentially without games in the championship. If Tashaev had played like this for several matches, then we might have called him up in March.

It’s a pity that (Kirill) Panchenko, who was called up from the FNL, was also injured. I think he needed to play for another month to get into the necessary shape. So there are no advances. If you prove yourself, the doors are open.

- Do you have any language barriers with army defender Mario Fernandez?

This is the case when you want to play, you have to talk. But jokes aside. He understands, but cannot speak. But we have Paulino Granero, who speaks Russian well. But language is not the most important aspect. Of course, I would like him to talk, but...

There is currently a shortage of central defenders in the national team due to the injuries of Viktor Vasin and Georgy Dzhikia. Will Mario Fernandez be used as a right center?

I spoke with Viktor Gancharenko back in the winter (about this), and we already used Mario in this position during training process. But I must tell you that a person can, but a certain time must pass for him to feel comfortable. An intuitive machine should work.

I don’t know who thought that we had some kind of conflicts. He is a grown man and he himself says that he did not prove himself at Zenit and was not called up (to the national team). Even before the March matches, I said that we didn’t call up either Dziuba or Shatov, because they just moved to new teams and had to keep them out for 10 days... I hope I did the right thing. I read his interview, he talks like an adult. The only thing I didn't like was that he said he would be a backup. We don't have any spares.
