Roller ski competitions. The history of the development of roller skiing as a separate sport

August 22, 2015 in Kolchugino Vladimir region There will be open competitions in roller skiing.

We managed to contact the organizers and ask several questions related to the race.

- Hello, tell us about the idea of holding these competitions.

Fans of roller skiing, coaches, with the support of the administration and sponsors, organized roller skiing competitions as part of the city festival.
Last year, on the territory of the new Aerodrom microdistrict, they made an asphalt surface suitable for holding roller ski competitions. (They started training there that year) Our sport's event will be held as part of the 10th stage of the Interregional Festival of Rollerskiing Disciplines (FLRD) - this is a step towards uniting the efforts of Moscow, regional and regional skiers.
Moscow is one of the strongest sports regions in Russia and, in particular, has rich traditions sporting achievements in cross-country skiing.
The popularity of this truly national sport is enormous. Unfortunately, until now Moscow, with its enormous financial, organizational and territorial resources, has not solved the problem of creating a specialized roller ski track and the corresponding infrastructure.
By going beyond the Moscow Ring Road and joining forces, we will be able to solve the problems of Moscow and Russian roller skiing related to the lack of specialized roller ski tracks.

- How many people are registered on this moment?

About 130, but we are waiting for more.

1. History of the development of roller skiing as a separate sport

Roller skiing was born from summer training skiers. The first roller skis were created in the mid-30s of the last century in Italy and Northern Europe.

Until the 1970s, roller skis were used primarily as a means of training skiers in the summer. In the 1970s, competitions began to be held roller skis. At that time, roller skis had one roller in front and two in the back. The metal platform frame had a size from 70 to 100 cm.

The first roller ski competitions took place in Asiago and Sandrigo (in northern Italy). These competitions were very successful, received good feedback both from competition participants and spectators. For winter sports athletes (skiers), this was the first competition that was held in the city and attracted a large number of spectators.

In 1976, pilot Giustino Del Vecchio set a record in Monza, Italy, flying 240.5 km in 24 hours. This became possible due to the fact that he used modern achievements in the aviation industry for skis.

Roller skis continued to be improved. Gradually we switched from three wheels to two.

In the beginning, roller skis were popular among Scandinavian and Italian athletes, and were mainly used by national team leaders and athletes. Then their geography expanded, and they began to be used in Sweden and Germany.

In the 70s of the last century, roller skis became very popular. In Europe, a large number of roller ski competitions began to be held, in which the strongest athletes took part.

In 1979, in Italy, the Roller Ski Association (AISR, Associazione Italiana Skiroll) was first created. In 1988, AISR was renamed FISR (Federazione Italiana Skiroll), the main tasks of these associations were and remain the promotion of roller skiing and the organization and implementation of sports competitions.

Roller skiing competitions gradually acquired international status. In 1985, the European Roller Ski Federation was created, and in 1988 the first European Championships were held in the Netherlands.

In 1992, at the FIS Congress, roller skiing was recognized as an independent sport.

In 1993, the first World Roller Ski Championships were held in The Hague.

Currently International Federation Roller Skiing is part of the International Ski Federation (FIS) as a subcommittee. Since 1994, under the auspices of the International Ski Federation, the Roller Ski World Cup has been held annually from May to October, and since 2001 the Roller Ski World Championships have been held every two years.

1 What types of roller skis are there?

It’s not hard to guess what roller skis are - some kind of roller skis that come with ski poles. They stand on roller skates, push off with sticks - everything becomes clearer than ever. The bindings installed on roller skis and the boots for them are absolutely no different from those used by skiers. But with sticks the only difference is the tip. Instead of a snow paw, a special pin with a tooth made of stronger steel is installed - asphalt requires special hardening of the iron. You can use winter poles - you just have to change the tip.

Roller skis, like cross-country skiing, divided into skating and classic. The differences are visible even to the naked eye: wheels for classic move smaller in diameter. When using roller skis, pay attention to the category of bearings - it determines whether the roller skis will go faster or slower. For beginners, the fifth category will be ideal - over time you can train on faster models. You shouldn't take too much risk - the speed of the roller skate is 40 kilometers per hour: a fall can deprive you of some vital organs or significantly reduce their functions.

2 Braking technique

Roller skis without brakes

There is no braking system for them at all.

Roller skis differ from simple skis in their braking technique. The laws of physics apply here: the braking distance on snow is five to eight meters, but on asphalt it increases significantly. And the braking system for roller skis is not provided at all. What to do in this case? There are at least two ways. The first is to brake with a plow (you need to keep in mind that in this case the braking distance, even at low speed, will take 10-15 meters), the second is to pull over to the side of the road. You need to choose the side of the road where grass grows or sand lies.

3 Where to ride?

The popularity of roller skiing is growing every year, and special roller skiing tracks are being built. However, beginners do not need to rush to the steep slopes of such roller slopes - they are still aimed at athletes with some training. It is best to acquire your first skills in flat areas. The main thing is to find good and smooth asphalt, without holes and stones.

Roller skis in Russia

In Russia, roller skiing began its development on a voluntary basis in the 90s of the last century. For many years, the training of athletes and the holding of competitions was provided mainly by enthusiasts and local authorities. Andrey Kukrus, Sergey Sokovikov, Olympic champion cross-country skiing Alexander Zavyalov.

Russian athletes from the very beginning they established themselves as leaders of this sport. They have won many victories at the World Championships, World Cup, World Cup stages, various international competitions.

Since 2002, the Russian Cup began in Russia; these competitions are held annually and include 4 - 5 stages held in various cities of the country. In 2005, a subcommittee on roller skiing was created within the Russian Ski Racing Federation, and in 2007 the first Russian roller ski championship was held in Izhevsk.

In 2006, Russia and the city of Yaroslavl hosted the roller ski World Cup. Such major competitions were held in Russia for the first time. According to Russian and international experts, the competition was held at a very high level.

In 2007, the Russian team won the team event in the 2007 World Cup, and in the individual championship among men, the 2007 World Cup went to Igor Glushkov, this is already the second World Cup in his career.

The main centers for the development of roller skiing in Russia are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Izhevsk, Kirov, Yaroslavl.

The state is paying increasing attention to the development of roller skiing. Federal authorities and the State Committee for physical culture and sports are beginning to show attention and support the development of this sport. Over the past three years, the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports has included roller skiing in the state classification and approved discharge standards.

Conclusion

Roller skiing is developing in almost all European countries, the USA, Canada and Australia. At the last World Championships in 2007 in Croatia, athletes from 20 countries took part.

Roller skiing is a high-speed, spectacular sport; as a rule, competitions are held in cities, along city streets, which attracts an additional large number of spectators.

The leaders in this sport are athletes from Italy, Russia, Germany and France.
