Since childhood, he has been involved in Greco-Roman wrestling. Greco-Roman wrestling

Freestyle wrestling teaches you not to give up in difficult moments, instills discipline and helps you find friends. Classes in most sections are free. A children's trainer tells how to start.

Freestyle wrestling - combat sports, in which opponents try to put each other on their shoulder blades (on the carcass), using various holds, throws and flips, trips and sweeps. Strikes in wrestling are prohibited, as well as techniques that can lead to broken bones.

In our country, this type of martial arts, the birthplace of which is the English county of Lancshire, has taken root very successfully. On Olympic Games and World Championships, Russia is the undisputed leader in freestyle wrestling in the team competition. Russian athletes, traditionally, are considered one of the main favorites and regularly win gold medals. This speaks of the high skill of our fighters, unbending willpower and, of course, a good coaching school.

Many people imagine wrestlers as gloomy, withdrawn and taciturn people. Smiling and charming freestyle wrestling coach primary classes State budgetary educational institution of Moscow “School No. 1450 “Olympus”, candidate for Master of Sports Evgeny Gusarov using personal example, he convinced us that this was absolutely not the case, and told us how freestyle wrestling would be beneficial for a child.

Evgeniy, at what age can children start freestyle wrestling?

From the age of 4-5 years, a child can already be accustomed to freestyle wrestling. You can take part in competitions at the age of 9-10, if the child is ready. There is no point in forcing and breaking your psyche.

How to determine if a child is suitable for freestyle wrestling?

I believe that freestyle wrestling is suitable for everyone, and any child can achieve certain results in this sport. Each body type has its own advantages. Next, of course, you need to focus on what the coach says; he can better explain what potential your child has.

It’s worth just letting your child try it and see if he likes it. You can bring him to competitions and see his reaction.

What can kids learn from training besides physical strength and wrestling skills?

First of all, struggle develops willpower. Here you can never give up and give up, you can’t even allow yourself to have such thoughts.

Secondly, this is discipline. When I first started training, all training sessions began with the phrase “Be equal!”, and the coach greeted us with the phrase “Hello, young wrestlers!”

In addition, wrestling helps develop reaction speed, as well as ingenuity, because you must always look for a way to get close to your opponent in order to make a move on him.

What is good about freestyle wrestling, and how it can still be useful to a child in life, is the friendly relations that reign in the team of wrestlers; the child will feel support from partners in the section and will find new close friends and buddies. All wrestlers, regardless of the type of wrestling, go in a group. Boxers and strikers walk alone - they are loners, because they push away from themselves, but wrestlers are always friendly and in company, because they attract to themselves. The wrestlers are very friendly. On the mat they are rivals, and off the mat they are friends. Even after defeats there are no hard feelings.

When I was in school, we took an oath that we would use our skills wisely, only for the purposes of self-defense and the protection of the weak. Nowadays, the title of master and candidate master of sports gives a big head start in any street fight.

There are many types of wrestling. What is unique about freestyle?

I personally consider freestyle wrestling to be the foundation of the basics, because the techniques from freestyle wrestling are present in all types of wrestling. They are universal, there is no additional equipment such as a kimono to grab onto. A person learns to simply use only his body and work through direct contact with the opponent's body when performing all techniques. If you have already practiced sick wrestling, then it will be very easy for you to understand and learn any other types of wrestling.

A huge advantage of freestyle wrestling is that this sport develops all muscles at once. The muscles of the back and forearm can be especially highlighted. In addition, peripheral vision develops well.

In my opinion, freestyle wrestling is the most humane type of wrestling, which is why I liked it. I do not like cruel species sports, I'm a kind person and I don't like violence. And freestyle wrestling is a male sport, and at the same time a very humane one - neither choking nor painful techniques are used here, which increase the likelihood of injury. In this case, it is allowed to use the legs to make grabs. In Greco-Roman wrestling, for example, this is not the case.

How to choose the best section for a child and how much do classes cost?

I know about 30 sections for children in Moscow, most of them are free and located at government institutions. Information about them can be found on the Moskomsport website. There are also paid ones - about 3,000 rubles per month, maybe 6,000-8,000 rubles, but this is not a guarantee that the section will be good. In my opinion, best sections freestyle wrestling are located at SDYUSH and SDYUSHOR, schools Olympic reserve, that is, these are schools where children study and train. This format will be very convenient for parents; there is no need to pick up the child from school and take him to sports section– here it is combined, two in one. This is also good for the child, because he gets mental relief in the middle of the school day during training.

How to determine whether a coach in this section is good or not?

Come to training and watch him - does he like children. You can see how he will cope with difficult situations when children do not understand something, are lazy, or some kind of disagreement arises between them. If the children are spoiled, it means the coach is not coping with discipline. The coach should be friendly and moderately strict, but discipline should be at the highest level. For children under 8 years old, everything needs to be presented in a playful way, so it’s difficult to talk about strict discipline here.

How many children go into freestyle wrestling now?

In my opinion, there is now a decline in interest in freestyle wrestling among children, and there are two reasons for this: firstly, parents have simply lost the habit or are not yet accustomed to the fact that they can receive a quality service for free; secondly, children now spend most of their time on computers and various gadgets, and not in sports sections.

When I was studying, in the late 90s - early 2000s, my coach had 20 children training, and now two coaches at my school can barely recruit 10 people.

It turns out that there are free places, but children don’t go there. Sometimes parents simply don’t know what they have near their home sport school.

Parents often choose the sports section that is geographically closer to home. Fights without rules are popular now. I would say that even for fights without rules, wrestling technique would be more useful as a base.

What equipment do you need to start training?

To just try, if you are not yet sure that this is your child’s choice, you just need shorts, a T-shirt and socks, or Czech boots.

If the child shows a desire to practice, then you can buy wrestling shoes, they cost about 1500-3000 rubles. However, again, if the parents are not sure that the child will continue to go to the section, then you can initially limit yourself to Czechs for 300-500 rubles.

How often do children have classes?

For young children (from 3 to 10 years old) - at least 3 times a week for 1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes. For children under 6 years of age, training is often done in a playful way.

Older children (from 10 to 15 years old) train 5 times a week for 1.5 hours. From 10-11 years old are allowed to compete. At serious competitions, such as the Moscow Championship, for example, you can compete officially from the age of 14-15.

Professionals have two workouts a day, 6 times a week.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wrestling compared to other types of martial arts that rely on striking techniques?

The wrestlers are very good at close range. In addition, they can take a punch perfectly - not every boxer can do that. This is due to good physical preparation: wrestlers strongly pump their neck muscles, which will allow them to take a blow. One famous athlete correctly noted that all wrestlers know how to fight, but not every boxer knows how to wrestle. If a wrestler finds himself in his element, he will do everything to immobilize his opponent and inflict a couple of blows on him.

Wrestling is more difficult to learn than striking. It will take about 3 years to move properly and learn to wrestle well. Impact equipment can be installed in six months.

Therefore, it is very useful to instill wrestling skills in childhood.

The training of wrestlers and strikers differ greatly in the type of load. Boxing training is more aerobic training, wrestling - strength and endurance.

If a wrestler comes to a boxer’s training, it will be difficult for him there, and vice versa.

Do injuries happen often?

I won’t hide it - yes. It is a known fact that occupational injury wrestlers - broken ears. Wrestlers also often injure their knees and elbows. But children are less susceptible to injury because their ligaments are more elastic and their muscles are softer. There is also less risk of injury because coaches spare children when they receive microtrauma and do not force them to train and work the way they force adults in similar situations.

Do professional athletes make money from wrestling?

Yes. At the age of 15, I myself already began to receive money, because I was listed as an athlete-instructor at my school. During all the time I competed, I won a lot of equipment and electronics, but not a lot of money. Basically they give money for 1st place.

How did you get into wrestling?

As a child, I was quite a large child. At the age of 9 I started karate and practiced it for six months. I had overweight and some things didn’t work out for me, so my parents and I decided that I wouldn’t do karate anymore.

In the 3rd grade, I learned about freestyle wrestling from a classmate and enrolled in the Olympus school. In the first years it was not easy, I was a “whipping boy” because I was superior to my peers in weight and strength, and I was taken to senior groups, where the guys were already older and stronger than me.

When I was in the 8th grade, at competitions in Moscow I consistently began to be among the top three winners in my weight class, but I was not able to win. At 15, he was injured - a compression fracture of the spine; it took a long time to recover. One day, the deputy director for sports came up to me and said: “Zhen, we have a sports school, but you don’t train with us,” hinting that they didn’t need me. I was taken aback, because there were guys in my class who practically didn’t train at all, they just skipped training. But I assured him that I would start training soon. I gathered my thoughts and began to train hard, and two months later I won the Moscow championship for the first time, and a month later I went to the all-Russian competition for my age and, to my surprise and great joy, I won them! This was my triumph: in three months, I went from being an unnoticed boy, getting into the Russian championship, to becoming a champion. Some said I was lucky. I had to confirm it with deeds, and more than once. I ended up winning the Russian Championship 3 times: 2 times in freestyle wrestling and 1 time in belt wrestling ( national species struggle among the Tatars). I then fulfilled the norm for a master of sports in freestyle wrestling, but the coach did not submit the documents on time and I never received the title. And the shelf life of the results is six months. Now my plans include fulfilling the norm again in order to restore historical justice (smiles).

I am 26 years old. I am not physically fit; I have never practiced such martial arts before. Once upon a time, I tried to take up this type of martial arts ( hand-to-hand combat). I came to the section, without talking for a long time (because there was no time for talking - there were a lot of people), they put me in sparring with...

a fairly experienced partner who took me for a pear and “flashed” me to the fullest. On this coaching work ended. I realized that it was more of a coaching club for improving already trained athletes. I had to start from the basics. Therefore, on the recommendation of experienced people, I turned to Marshall with a request to take up my training in martial arts. Here, I met a complete understanding of how to structure classes with beginners like me. The main attention was paid to the issue of technique and techniques used in martial arts. Most importantly, he took into account my peculiarity - weak physical training and other individual characteristics, patiently explaining and correcting my mistakes. From the very first lessons I learned a lot about the technique of defense and striking. This gave me confidence in my abilities and I believed in myself, which was not the case before. For all this I am very grateful to him and I consider him a very good, thoughtful coach, capable of teaching martial arts to any beginner (even someone like me - I’m a “nerd” :-))

My impressions of working with the trainer are extremely positive. I’ve been training with him at the Moscow Kodokan martial arts center for more than a month now and I’m happy with almost everything. Roman Viktorovich is extremely pedantic when it comes to setting up equipment and devotes a lot of time to beginners, working through all aspects...

the slightest detail. He starts with the very basics and doesn’t let you move to the next “step” until you complete everything basic exercises excellently. On the one hand, this approach may seem overly pedantic and even bring down the arrogance of an ambitious beginner, but you very quickly understand that this is how you can understand the fundamental principles of the martial arts you are studying, and not just learn how to fight well. I am also pleased with the small size of the group, which, in fact, allows the coach to pay enough attention to everyone. Among the shortcomings, I can only note the specifics of the hall, which was originally intended for karate, and not boxing. There is only one punching bag, and you have to practice barefoot on the tatami. However, the lack of pears is successfully compensated by the abundance of pair work and physical exercise, and tatami is easy to get used to.

I could only dream of such a coach as Mikhail Yurievich Veltishchev! !!A professional with a capital P, with whom it is interesting to work and just communicate. For me, this trainer is a great authority, with whom I am happy to continue training myself and bring my friends...

those who want to practice martial arts. I would also really like to see Mikhail as part of my teaching team, since I am sure that most of my students will come to him for training. I recommend it to both clients and managers of educational institutions who want to open in their educational institution martial arts section.

The parents of every boy want to see their grown-up son strong, courageous, decisive, capable of protecting himself and his loved ones. These qualities, as a rule, are established in early childhood. And not the least role in their formation and consolidation is played by the chosen sports section. In our country, one of the popular sports is Greco-Roman wrestling, in competitions in which our athletes are almost always among the winners.

We talked with the president of the sports public organization “Federation” about how champions in this sport grow, what parents need to be prepared for and what to pay attention to when choosing a Greco-Roman wrestling section. wrestling Yaroslavl region", Honored Master of Sports Russian Federation Greco-Roman wrestling Alexey Lvovich Tarabarin.

1. Alexey Lvovich, what are the main features of Greco-Roman wrestling?

– I think the main questions arise when comparing Greco-Roman (classical) and freestyle wrestling. The first involves two opponents fighting with holds and techniques only above the waist and only with their hands. The main goal of the fight is to carry out active actions and put the opponent on his shoulder blades. In freestyle wrestling, grabs with both hands and feet are allowed. Each type has its own rules and techniques that require the athlete to practice and polish it to an automatic, almost intuitive level. But there are cases when one athlete can compete in both types of competitions. To be fair, I will say that in modern history I know of only one case when a freestyle wrestler also competed in the classical style, since switching from one type of competition to another is not very easy.

2. How dangerous is this sport?

– As in any sport, there are injuries in wrestling. In the initial stages of learning, children often get injured in their nose, which results in bleeding.

3. Tell me, if parents are thinking about choosing a sports section for their child, should they see any prerequisites that would indicate that wrestling is right for him?

- No, they shouldn’t. If we go deeper into history, we will see that Greco-Roman wrestling is the ancestor of all sports. The ancients raised boys with wrestling as one of their main activities. This is an entire education system that does not require any prerequisites. Currently, there are different weight and age categories, so every child who wants to come to the gym will find a suitable group.

4. Are there any contraindications for wrestling?

– The only contraindication may be the presence of any disease that precludes physical activity.

The most relevant and useful information for modern parents is in our newsletter.

– Recruitment starts from 7 years old. Since I am familiar with the training program for children of this age, which is based mainly on play, I can recommend giving at the same time as entering a secondary school.

6. What should you pay attention to when choosing a Greco-Roman wrestling section?

– The section should be budgetary (state), with a large hall and good sports history, that is, her students should have real results.

7. What expenses should parents be prepared for?

– For the first time, you need to buy sneakers, sports shorts and a T-shirt. In the future - wrestling shoes and wrestling tights.

8. How much this type Is the sport suitable for girls?

– In my opinion, Greco-Roman wrestling is in no way suitable. If there is interest and desire, a girl can try her luck in freestyle wrestling. In this type of wrestling, our athletes perform successfully at world competitions and Olympics.

9. What personal qualities, in your opinion, does Greco-Roman wrestling develop?

– Wrestling develops will, character, confidence, strength of mind and spirit, determination, develops intuition, endurance, teaches the skills of effective teamwork, and also develops calmness and endurance, the ability to soberly assess the situation before making a decision, but at the same time react in a timely manner. emergency situations. And this is just a small list of what positive influence, which this sport has.

10. How much do you need to train to achieve any results?

– This is very individual. As in any Olympic form sports requires painstaking work, first of all, on yourself. If we talk about significant results, our wrestlers have been bringing the lion's share of awards to the Russian Olympic team for many years.

Martial arts training from an early age contributes to physical, mental and intellectual development child, help improve health. As a complex coordination sport, martial arts develop fine motor skills, which is directly related to speech development. The sooner a child starts classes, the more significant the effect will be from them, and the easier it will be for him to acquire the necessary skills. But many parents are afraid to send their little child to a sports section, because no one is safe from bruises and bumps when practicing martial arts. At what age is it better to start classes, and how to make a choice in favor of a specific type of martial arts if you still decide to send your child to the section?

Why should a child do martial arts?

The importance of martial arts training for the physical and mental development of a child cannot be underestimated. But the same can be said about any sport. Special advantage martial arts for children- They develop self-confidence. Most coaches answer the same question “Why do children come to the section?” As a rule, the desire to master single combat associated with desire baby gain confidence after being hurt. Of course, it is very important to compromise with peers, but every child also needs the ability to stand up for themselves. The feeling of insecurity is scary for an adult, but especially for a child.

In addition, martial arts develop strength, speed, and coordination of movements. And also discipline and determination. A child who attends such sections, as a rule, soon begins to develop leadership qualities.

What types of martial arts are there?

There are wrestling and striking martial arts. Oriental martial arts are often classified as a separate class. Let's talk about each of these classes.

There is virtually no striking in martial arts. Here are the most popular types of wrestling martial arts:

  • Classical (Greco-Roman) wrestling- a European type of martial arts in which the athlete must, using a certain arsenal of technical actions (techniques), unbalance the opponent and press him to the mat with his shoulder blades.
  • Freestyle wrestling differs from Greco-Roman in that it allows for grabbing the opponent's legs, sweeping and active use of the legs when performing any technique.

Name Strike martial arts speaks for itself - here the opponents actively strike each other. Types of striking martial arts:

  • Boxing- a contact sport, a martial arts in which athletes punch each other with their fists wearing special gloves.
  • Kickboxing- This is a whole series of striking martial arts. Depending on the type of kickboxing, kicks and kicks may be allowed here. different kinds punches prohibited in boxing.

As for martial arts, they are distinguished as a separate class, since for the most part, it is not only a sport, but also a philosophy. In addition to development physical qualities, martial arts are given Special attention spiritual education of a person. Precisely eastern martial arts experts recommend for children very early age.

The most popular martial arts in our country are:

  • Wushu (Gongfu)- Chinese system of psychophysical exercises, which has a deep philosophical basis. Wushu teaches that by ignoring the spiritual component, one cannot achieve true mastery and physical perfection. Gives an even load on all muscle groups. Wushu does not develop aggressiveness, but, on the contrary, teaches how to avoid conflict situations. One of the most suitable martial arts for the little ones.
  • Jujutsu in essence, he is the progenitor of many types of wrestling - judo, aikido, karate, sambo. According to legend, one of the founders of jujutsu, Okayama Shirobei, noticed how a thin tree branch bent under the weight of snow, threw it off and straightened up, while a thick one broke off. Then he exclaimed: “Gentleness conquers evil!” The basis of jiu-jitsu is throwing technique and force on the joints. An important component is the striking technique, which serves to stop the opponent, throw him off balance, and then apply a painful or suffocating technique. Therefore, only non-contact jiu-jitsu is suitable for children.
  • Karate- literally translated means “empty hand.” Karate is Japanese martial arts without weapons, based on movements that make the best use of the laws of mechanics. Karate is not only a very effective, but also a dangerous fight, because everyone knows the ability of karateists to break bricks with their hands, feet and even their heads! For children, only the non-contact method is recommended, which develops excellent reaction, dexterity and endurance.
  • Taekwondo- “breaking the way of arms and legs” - a Korean version of oriental martial arts. Close to Japanese karate, only in taekwondo there is no non-contact method.
  • Aikido. The birthplace of this martial arts is Japan. Aikido is purely a system of defense. All the techniques in it are somehow related to circular trajectories. The movement of an aikidoist in a circle allows him not only to avoid a hard collision, but also to completely accompany the movement of the attacker. In addition, all actions (in aikido are called techniques) of an aikidoist must be elegant, beautiful, but at the same time real, that is, guaranteeing protection. From the very beginning, much attention has been paid to this. These principles are also true on a psychological level. A true master must “see” the enemy’s consciousness and prevent all his actions.
  • Judo- "soft path". Judo belongs to the group of non-impact martial arts of combat origin, the original goal of which was to defeat the enemy, putting him in a helpless position. Very suitable for girls, there are practically no hard grips in this sport.

And separately I would like to say a few words about Capoeira.

  • Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art very similar to dance. This is an improvisation created by repeating various movements, as well as reacting to the movements of another player. The game of Capoeira is the main and key concept, which means that such activities are ideal for children.

At what age is it better to send a child to the martial arts section?

  • WITH 2 years It is possible to train in “soft” martial arts: wushu, aikido, judo. Starting training this early has its benefits. Firstly, a child at the age of two still makes good contact with adults; parents represent unconditional authority for him. Later, most children go through a “three-year crisis” in one form or another. At this time, the baby begins to doubt the correctness of the parents’ decisions and becomes intractable. Secondly, early training martial arts promotes psychomotor development children, improving speech skills, helps coordination of attention. Getting to know martial arts at this age it has another advantage - the baby’s visual and auditory perception develops, which later will make it much easier for the child to study at school.
  • Approximately from 3 years old you can teach a child Capoeira, kids perceive classes as an exciting game.
  • From 5-7 years training recommended karate.
  • IN 8-10 years of age, children are usually ready for classes classical wrestling.
  • Boxing, kickboxing, freestyle wrestling start teaching children from 10-12 years or later.

However, it should be understood that all start dates are individual for each child. One child will happily begin learning wushu at two years old, while the other is not ready for this even at four.

Rules for choosing a martial arts section for children

To successfully and safely teach children martial arts, it is important to follow the following rules.

  • Consider the child's wishes. Parents must listen and hear the child, take into account his wishes and characteristics. If the baby has no interest in any types of martial arts, it is useless to force him. If the child still has a desire, then by studying the child’s behavior and character, parents can understand which types of martial arts are closest to him.
  • The main thing is the safety of the child. Since any martial arts is active, fighting look sports, then the main requirement for classes should be to ensure the safety of the child. You should study all the reviews about the section, positive and negative, independently visit the place where the classes are held, visit the “day open doors" or demonstration performances. It is important to get to know the instructor, ask his views on teaching children martial arts, if possible, attend your child’s first classes and see what and how children are taught.
  • The group must contain children of equal age. It is very important, especially for the youngest children, that the group is made up of children of the same age. In “mixed” groups, children under five or six years old, as a rule, do not adapt well, and interest in activities is quickly lost.
  • Taking into account the child's physique. An important role in choosing martial arts plays physique baby. Children with a thin build will feel comfortable in those sports where lightness and speed are valued, for example, wushu And taekwondo. Suitable for strong, very active guys boxing and freestyle wrestling, and for heavy children, choose martial arts in which there are practically no jumps, for example, judo or aikido.
  • Taking into account the gender of the child. Martial arts are sometimes considered masculine looking sports, but this is not true. Recommended for girls wushu, judo, capoeira- these sports are especially effective in developing plasticity and forming excellent posture.

The two main rules when choosing a children's martial arts section are that the classes must be safe and the child enjoys them. In this case, early training in martial arts will bring invaluable benefits to the child both in childhood and in adulthood.
